InterContinental Hotel ushers in new era

KUALA LUMPUR: InterContinental Kuala Lumpur has replaced Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur.
Managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the 473-room hotel is nestled in Jalan Ampang.
It is a prestigious address in the heart of the commercial, entertainment and shopping district and located just five minutes away from Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The hotel welcomed its first guests at midnight on Jan 31. The next day, the hotel staff came to "celebrate difference" in the various cultures with a Hindu, Buddhist, Islam and Christian religious ceremony to bless the hotel.
General manager Adam McDonald and department heads welcomed employees at the staff entrance as early as 6am.
The sound of the kompang (Malay drums) greeted the staff who were served nasi lemak, teh tarik and curry puffs.
The celebration continued with the flagging off the taxi campaign by McDonald and the hotel staff. More than 800 taxis queued to pick up lunch boxes and gifts.
A special yee sang lunch was later organised to toss to prosperity, good health, good luck and happiness in the staff cafeteria.
McDonald along with Charles Marshall, the area general manager (Malaysia) and Thomas Lee, director of MTJ Development Sdn Bhd joined in the lo hei to usher in good luck into the hotel,.
Hotel staff gathered to form a heart shape at the entrance for a photography session with Marshall and MacDonald.
Hotel staff and department heads later welcomed guests in the lobby.
The hotel's facilities include a business centre and Club InterContinental, a spacious lounge for social or business interactions.
The Club on the 26th floor offers a spacious lounge with a breathtaking view of the city skyline.
Daily breakfast, English afternoon tea, refreshments, Internet access and personalised business services are just a few of the many services offered at the club.
The spa and health club facilities along with an outdoor swimming pool provide an ideal environment to rest and workout.
A range of restaurants and bars offer guests a wide choice of international and local cuisine.
The hotel is undergoing an 18-month refurbishment and works in the Tatsu restaurant (formerly Benkay) is due for completion in April.
Each guest room is furnished with international standard fittings such as plush bedding, flat screen television and high-speed broadband.
The hotel offers a range of venues for wedding receptions, business functions, conferences or meetings, each complete with the latest video and audio equipment.
