Free pizza for

military members

From 5 to 9 p.m. Thursdays in April, Ye Olde Town Inn, 18 W. Busse Ave., in downtown Mount Prospect, will give one free 9-inch individual pizza to anyone showing an active U.S. military ID card.

There is no purchase necessary, and military personnel can choose from Ye Olde Town Inn's original crispy crust, pan or stuffed pizza, with choice of toppings, for dine-in or take out.

Gala fundraiser

to promote peace

The Central Asia Institute will host the Promoting Literacy a Promoting Peace Gala fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Hyatt Regency, 9300 Bryn Mawr Ave., Rosemont.

The event, hosted by the Chicago Muslim and Pakistani Community, is a tribute to the institute's executive director, Greg Mortenson, a Nobel Peace Prize-nominated philanthropist who's built more than 135 schools in Central Asia. "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera will be the celebrity guest.
